The Philoxians became well known throughout Ontario for their sign painting abilities. In the early days of Philoxia it was a means of making a living and supporting the Philoxian community.
Talent was abundant and lead by Iilah and Tawlia, artistry flowed and the business of sign painting became a mainstay at Philoxia.
They started simple by doing house and barn painting because this area was in sore need of qualified painters.
As folks got to know them better, they recognized their creative talents for art and sign painting, murals, billboards and even vehicles started showing up everywhere adorned with Philoxian Artwork.
The Philoxians always had a motto which just about covers everything, "Why sure. . . If it will stand still long enough, we'll paint it" and that they did.
Over 20 years they have painted hundreds of buildings, thousands of signs, 473 milk cans, dozens of mailboxes and hundreds of other interesting things such as fishing lures for these remote natives of Lake Atitlan onto 6 foot , hand carved candle pillars and 2500 Lb cedar cheese for the county fair, onto a 6 month contract with Walt Disney for the "Return to Oz" movie set.
